Raúl became the first player to score 50 Champions League goals when he converted in a 2–1 group stage win over Olympiacos on 28 September 2005, and was also the first to make 100 appearances in the tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain failed to win the French title, but made up for the title disappointment by winning the Cup Winners' Cup. This made manager Luis Fernández the first Frenchman to win a major European trophy, but the failure to win any domestic silverware led to him leaving the club.
