The team was relegated at the end of theĀ 2000ā01 season, finishing second last, but won promotion back into the league under coachĀ Horst KƶppelĀ the following year. After a fifth-place finish in the 2002ā03 season, the team stayed in the Regionalliga for a further two years and was relegated back to the Oberliga at the end of theĀ 2004ā05 campaignĀ on goal difference behindĀ Chemnitzer FC.
The team again returned after one year, this time underĀ Theo Schneider, and avoided relegation on goal difference ahead ofĀ Holstein KielĀ in theĀ 2006ā07 Regionalliga West season.
