After a play-off lost on penalties in theĀ 1997ā98 seasonĀ to Perugia, Torino returned to Serie A inĀ 1998ā99, but were once again relegated at the end of theĀ 1999ā2000 season.Ā The club was immediately promoted back in theĀ 2000ā01 season, and the following year finished in 11th place, and qualified for theĀ Intertoto Cup. After being eliminated byĀ VillarrealĀ on penalties, Torino suffered its worst performance in Serie A, and were relegated after finishing in last place.
