Sheffield United were founding members of theĀ Premier LeagueĀ in theĀ 1992ā93 season, during which they scored the first ever goal of the competition. They were relegated in 1994 and after losing play-off finals inĀ 1997Ā andĀ 2003, the club finally regained their Premier League status at the end of the 2005ā06 campaign under the stewardship of managerĀ Neil Warnock. However, United were relegated the following year and dropped intoĀ League OneĀ in 2011.
Sheffield spent six seasons in the third tier, losing in three play-off campaigns, before managerĀ Chris WilderĀ led the club to promotion as champions in 2016ā17. Promotion to the Premier League followed in 2018ā19, though they returned to theĀ ChampionshipĀ in 2021. The club played in the Premier League following a promotion from the EFL Championship in theĀ 2022ā23 season, but were relegated in theĀ following season.
