Brian Kerr was replaced byĀ Steve StauntonĀ (assisted byĀ Bobby RobsonĀ in the position of "international football consultant") in January 2006.Ā Under Staunton, results varied widely but the team still failed to qualify forĀ Euro 2008Ā and Staunton lost the position in October 2007.
