United reached the semi-final stage of theĀ 2010–11 FA CupĀ but lost 1–0 at Wembley toĀ Manchester CityĀ on 16 April 2011 - and their opponents went on to win the trophy. Defeat in this game ended United's chances of becoming the first club to win the league and cup double four times.

On 14 May 2011, after a 1–1 draw toĀ Blackburn RoversĀ atĀ Ewood Park, United broke theĀ EnglishĀ League title record by winning their 19th title, surpassingĀ Liverpool's record of 18 titles, which they equalled in theĀ 2008–09Ā season. This is the first time United have held the outright record in their history.

They also competed in theĀ Champions LeagueĀ for the 15th season in a row, and contested theĀ FinalĀ withĀ BarcelonaĀ on 28 May 2011, but they lost 3–1.
