From late February onwards their season collapsed, starting with a 5–2 defeat to local London rivalsĀ Arsenal, who they had been 10 points ahead of before the game. Many Tottenham fans had been taunting Arsenal fans with the phraseĀ "Mind The Gap", a reference to both their position above Arsenal in the league and the announcement on theĀ London tubeĀ system.

After their negative spiral, the phrase is now used by Arsenal fans referring to Tottenham, who haven't finished above Arsenal sinceĀ 1995. Their last game of the Premier League season resulted in a 2–0 victory againstĀ Fulham.
